A one-pager outlining the key features and benefits of the program.
We learned a lot last year as we ran our 12 pilot programs across 10 orgs and 180 cyber professionals – from CISOs to incident responders, from GCR pros to SOC analysts.
One of the things we learned was the trauma they fear and face after a major incident.
So we re-architected our 8-week program and condensed it down to 4 weeks, with double the sessions every week. Then we added one-on-one mentor check-ins.
As before, the professionally administered psychometric testing gives us the ability to measure progress across the group and report aggregate results to leaders. And all participants still receive the recordings for practice of the iRest® Protocol between sessions.
By allowing for a deeper and more frequent exposure to the deeply restorative iRest® Protocol, we expect – as military groups before us have experienced – a profound shift back into emotional and cognitive balance in the shortest possible time.
As the name implies, RapidReset™ picks up the psychological 'reset' aspects of the iRest method. But the program is designed to integrate with our 12-month sustainability program where teams go on to establish enhanced resilience through restoration and finally integration. But more on that later.
This program is very much peer-informed in its delivery. All our facilitators are required to undergo training in the language and culture of cyber, so your teams sense that here is someone who understands the suffering they have encountered and is able to tailor their presentation to maximum effect. They are also trained in knowing when a case requires referral to clinical support, so we have the ability to tie in with your EAP if necessary.
We're super excited to be bringing you this powerful intervention – which by the way teams find enjoyable to practice.
Not only will it help rebuild morale, but it will also make them feel like post-breach remediation isn't just about the technology, but also the people we count on to protect us.
Sydney, Australia – 1 February 2024
Cybermindz.org today announced the launch of a pioneering initiative designed to support the psychological well-being of cybersecurity teams following major cyber breaches.
Cyber incidents are not just a threat to data and systems, but can also have a profound
psychological impact on the teams tasked with defending against them.
Recognising this, the Cybermindz RapidReset™ program offers a specialised post-cyber breach trauma recovery resource for critical cyber teams.
Peter Coroneos, founder of Cybermindz, highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives:
“We owe a duty of care to those in frontline cyber roles, the unsung heroes constantly
defending against potentially catastrophic attacks. The high levels of stress encountered by cyber defenders during and immediately after a major cyber incident need early and targeted interventions to shore up their mental resilience and wellbeing.”
The RapidReset program utilises the iRest® protocol, developed by Dr Richard Miller and with extensive application in the US military for post-trauma in returning veterans and active duty personnel.
“Cybermindz.org is bringing this into cybersecurity for the first time. The new RapidReset program is trauma-informed and an essential part of the post-incident response,” Mr Coroneos added.
Dr Andrew Reeves, Cybermindz’ Director of Organisational and Behavioural Research,
emphasised the program’s foundation in evidence-based practice.
“We believe this will make a meaningful contribution to human level cyber defence at a time when our research shows that cyber teams may be burning out faster than frontline healthcare workers."
"Left unchecked, societal-level impacts may follow. Our peer-informed approach combined with the demonstrated military application of iRest makes this a timely offering for the cyber community,” said Dr Reeves.
The RapidReset program is set to become an integral part of the support system for
cybersecurity professionals, offering them tools, mentoring and strategies to manage stress and build resilience in the face of growing online threats.
Ends.
